"A public realm intervention in the urban fabric of Borough's Viaducts"

Project Details

  • LocationSouthwark, London
  • Site Area413 sqm
  • Time Scale2007 - 2011

Situated close to the River Thames and Borough Market. A new courtyard ‘Vinopolis Piazza’ was created that links Park Street with Stoney Street providing increased permeability and new frontage for A1 / A3 outlets carved out of the old viaduct vaults.  The scheme was described by Michael Tsoukaris (Southwark’s head of design and conservation) as “a modern reinterpretation of the character of the area”.
