Client: Royal Ahold
"To plan and design Ahold's first ever shopping centre in Poland including all the interior design, finishes as well as branding and signage"
Project Details
Greig + Stephenson completed 'Sarbi Stok', the £25 million project, in 2001. Located in Bielsko Biala in the south of the country, on the main route to Katowice from Warsaw, the centre has proved to be a phenomenal success since opening. The centre covers 34,000 square metres and is anchored by an Ahold-owned Hypernova hypermarket (12,000 square metres). Other occupiers include the major retailers MediaMarkt (4,500 square metres) and shoe discounter Deichmann (2,500 square metres).

The single-level shopping scheme of Sarni Stok features a 1,200-square-metre food court. At the lower level, 800 car parking spaces accessible by lifts and travelators were created, with 200 more spaces on the shopping level. Ahold also contributed to the city with the creation of new road infrastructure as part of the planning permission agreement.
